To whom it may concern.
The Government of Iceland has announced new border rules which will take effect on August 16th.
In summary:
- If you are fully vaccinated (at least 14 days ago) or have certification of a previous infection you can enter with PCR or Antigen (not older than 72 hours old).
- If you are not vaccinated nor have certification of a previous infection you need 5 days quarantine with two screenings. You also need a PCR (Antigen not enough).
- Players born in 2005 or after are exempt from these rules
The rules are as follows (more at: https://www.covid.is/categories/travel-to-and-within-iceland).
Rules at the border for people with vaccination or former COVID-19 infection
All travelers must pre-register before arriving in Iceland and confirm their departure day, if available.
Present a certificate of full vaccination, or a certificate of a previous infection, at the border. If a certificate is not valid the individual needs to undergo 2 tests and quarantine for 5 days in between.
14 days have to have passed from the second dose (or 14 days from Janssen/Johnson & Johnson dose) for a certificate to be valid. If the time is shorter than 14 days, the traveler needs to undergo testing at the border and follow the rules on home quarantine until a negative result is obtained.
All vaccinated travelers, as well as those with a confirmed previous infection, must present a negative COVID test before boarding an aircraft or ship to Iceland. Both a PCR test and a COVID-19 rapid antigen test are accepted. The test must have been taken within 72 hours before departure on the first leg of the journey. If a negative COVID-19 test is not presented at the border, there is an ISK 100,000 fine imposed and an obligation to get tested at the border.
Testing and quarantine of children: Children born in 2005 or later do not have to be tested at the border. They are exempt from the obligation to present a negative PCR certificate upon arrival. If a child travels with a person who is required to be quarantined, the child stays with them and is released from quarantine if the second test from the companion is negative. If the companion is exempt from double screening and quarantine, so is the child. A child traveling alone does not need to quarantine.
