As the tournament reaches the halfway mark, we now have a sole leader on 5/5 and that is Shakhriyar Mamedyarov! He Azeri grandmaster took advantage of a couple of early inaccuracies by Gretarsson to post a quick and clean victory. You can watch Shakhriyar explain the game on the replay of yesterday’s show here: http://new.livestream.com/chess/reykjavikopen2015
Trailing Mamedyarov by half a point is a group of 8 players, consisting of Eljanov, Navara, Gupta, Fier, l’Ami, Stopa, Gao and IM Gunnarsson, who continued his incredible run by beating Grandelius and who currently has a performance of over 2800!
In the evening the traditional pub quiz took place and it was won by the team of World Champion Magnus Carlsen and his second Jon Ludvig Hammer, with an impressive score of 26/30!
