We are very proud to announce that the first ever European Fischer Random Cup will take place during the 2018 GAMMA Reykjavik Open 2018!
It is very fitting that the tournament is held on March 9th, which is Bobby Fischer’s 75th Birthday!
The tournament is open for everyone, but the highest ranked European player will be European Champion in Fischer Random chess.
The tournament takes place in Harpa (the playing venue of the GAMMA Reykjavik Open) on March 9th and starts at 13.00.

1. ORGANIZERS
The Icelandic Chess Federation and the European Chess Union.
2. DATE, VENUE, SCHEDULE
The tournament is open for everyone, but the highest ranked European player will be European Champion in Fischer Random chess.
The tournament takes place in Harpa (the playing venue of the GAMMA Reykjavik Open) on March 9th and starts at 13.00.
3. SYSTEM AND RATE OF PLAY
The Fischer Random Cup shall be played according to the Swiss System in 9 rounds.
Time controls are 10 minutes + 3 second increment per every move.
4. RULES
The FIDE Chess960 Rules will be used.

The prices are not shared. The European Champion (highest ranked European player) gets an extra price of €1,000.
6. TIE BREAK
FIDE recommended tie-breaks will be used:
- Direct encounter
- The greater number of wins
- The greater number of games with Black (unplayed games shall be counted as played with White)
- Buchholz Cut 1
- Buchholz
- Sonneborn-Berger
7. ENTRY FEE
- Free for GMs/IMs
- €10 for participants in the GAMMA Reykjavik Open
- €25 for others
The entry fee can be paid in cash or by credit card at the playing venue.
8. REGISTRATION
You need to confirm your participation before 12.00 at the playing venue and pay the entry fee.
It is recommended that players confirm their participation and pay the entry fee on March 8th. Then it is not necessary to confirm the participation on March 9th.
9. ARBITERS
IA Omar Salama will be chief arbiter.
The decisions of arbiters will be final and cannot be appealed.
