After 3 rounds out of 9, you wouldn’t expect a premature eruption…unless you are in Iceland! After three rounds we had a volcanic eruption on the south-west coast of Iceland. For most of the chess players, an eruption at this point is premature….so we must ponder is it too early to have 3 out of 3??
After 3 rounds, only 6 players have managed this feat! Despite this being a 400 player tournament, only ONE player out of these 6 is a top 20 seed
In the fourth round, we will have 3 maximum score lineups!
Vahap Sanal is already a bit of a veteran of this tournament but nonetheless he got a bit of an easy ride from IM katz in the 3rd round. After white’s 12th and 13th move the tide seemed to shift completely to black!
