There was no shortage of drama in the final round of the Reykjavik Open. Before the round, Max Warmerdam, Mads Andersen, and Pragganandhaa were leading with 6,5 points. Mads and Max made a relatively short draw. For a long while, this looked like it opened the door for several players to join the leader, including Gukesh who had won a pawn against Pragganandhaa and seemed to be playing for the co-lead. Young Ahbimanyu Mishra also looked set to enter the record books as the youngest winner and finally, Icelandic GM Hjörvar Steinn Grétarsson was on his way to becoming the first Icelandic co-winner since 2010!
This all came to a crashing halt in time trouble. Gukesh blundered horrendously and the game turned around on the spot!
Unreal turn of events, horribly blunder by D Gukesh, and @rpragchess is now the sole winner after he wins a completely lost game, what an unreal turnaround! #Chess #ReykjavikOpen pic.twitter.com/8AAjml41sq
