The organisation of the Reykjavik Open is very pleased to announce a new #1 seed at the 2017 Reykjavik Open. It’s none other than the Georgian Baadur Jobava.
Jobava is well known for his creative and highly entertaining chess. The Georgian is currently in the 2700-club where he belongs with a rating of 2701.
We already have another Olympiad hard hitter in Eugenio Torre joining the Open but the only individual outshining the Philippines legend at the Olympiad was Jobava with a 2926 performance and 8 out of 10 points. Jobava really shines when he plays for his country and he has already visisted Iceland in November of 2015 for the European Team Championship.
Jobava is on a good day capable of beating almost anybody and in an open one can expect to see highly entertaining and interesting games and ideas on his board. Case in ponit, take a look at this massacre of a former FIDE World Champion from the Baku Olympiad. Unusual opening and then an unexpected and fantastic combination, enjoy!
We expect to see similar chess in April at the Harpa conference hall 🙂
