The Reykjavik Open Pubquiz has become a mainstay at the tournament and a popular side event. On Friday, several players showed up to form teams and play the quiz, 30 chess related questions to test their chess knowledge, knowledge of history and current events.

Probably a record breaking turnout this year! (Photo: Hallfríður Sigurðardóttir)
The pubquiz and blitz side events this year are run by the so called CAD brothers who run one of the most popular podcasts in Iceland.

The questions this year were perhaps slightly easier compared to previous years and that resulted in three teams with a score higher than 27 out of 30! The winning team got 28,5 points and second place 28. Very impressive chess knowledge shown by these teams.

The WINNERS! (Photo: Hallfríður Sigurðardóttir)
One of this years winners became the first Icelandic participant to win the event twice. Gauti Páll Jónsson is now a two-time winner and his team also featured IM Dagur Ragnarsson, former Chessbrah intern Armann and member of “Miðbæjarskák” which is an enthusiastic group of guys organising blitz events in Iceland. True chess enthusiasts!
