The top tables at the GAMMA Reykjavik Open drew their games and this opened the door for several players half a point behind to catch up. Lenderman and Yilmaz fought in a long double rook endgame but Lenderman held on for a draw. On board two Nihal Sarin agreed to a draw against Gata Kamsky in a closed down position where neither side could do anything.
This allowed Richard Rapport to join the leaders again as he used the bishop pair to defeat the knight pair of Josh Friedel in a nice game. Baskaran Adhiban also played a very nice game when he sacrificed and sailed home his initiative against Alejandro Ramirez on the white side of a Benko gambit. Maxime Lagarde also beat out GM Perelshteyn with the black pieces to move well into contention.
Now we have these pack of 5 players on 5 out of 6 followed by no fewer than 17 players with 4.5! It’s clear that during the final 3 rounds the winner is getting minimum 2.5 point from the remaining 3 and most likely 3 full points!
in the 7th round Rapport meats Lenderman, Lagarde has white against Adhiban and Yilmaz squares off against Sarin meanwhile the young Abdusattaorv meets Eljanov.
