After three rounds we still have sixteen players with a full house on 3 out of 3. Top seed Anish Giri is among them after beating Eugene Perelshteyn with the black pieces. Joining the group are 2nd seed Dmitry Andreikin and 4th seed Zoltan Almasi while 3rd seed Baadur Jobava half a point when his opponent played very innocently the exhcange Slav.
Some upsets where on the top boards. IM Robert Ris beat the legendary Alexander Beliavsky while Tatev Abrahamian managed a nice win against the Turkish GM Emre Can. Shirov and Kamsky were also among the top seeds giving up a draw with the black pieces.
In the fourth round we finally get some of the top grandmasters clashing on the top boards. Anish will face his countryman Jorden van Foreest who has had quite the tournament so far. Jorden can consider himself lucky to have a full house after having lost positions or close to drawn ones in all his games. He has however proved resourceful and pulled a win out of all of them. He will need all his tenacity against his high rated countryman.
Alejandro Ramirez will face Dmitry Andreikin, Donchenko white against Almasi, Gawain Jones white against Josh Friedel and the Icelandic champion Johann Hjartarson has white against Vidit Santosh Gujrathi.
Players will be happy to have the grueling double round day behind them and we can expect some fighting chess in the coming days. The 4th round kicks off at 15:00 local time.
