After a topsy turvy last round we have an amazing 8 way tie for first place at the Reykjavik Open. Constantin Lupulescu, Mircea-Emilian Parligras and Gawain Jones led with half a point before the round. Lupulescu and his compatriot Parligras quickly drew on the first board which opened the door for Jones. Erwin l’Ami however had other ideas and grabbed the advantage with black and looked like he would join the leaders. In the end Aryan Tari, Tigran Petrosian, Abhijeet Gupta, Nils Grandelius and Alireza Firouzja joined the pack on 7 out of 9. In the end Gawain Jones also managed to save his position and therefore make it an 8-way tie at the top.
After tiebreak calculations, Constantin Lupulescu emerged as the winner and is the winner of the 2019 GAMMA Reykjavik Open. Congratulations to the talented Romanian!
