The 2018 GAMMA Reykjavik Open has successfully concluded and the closing ceremony was held in the Reykjavik City Hall. Líf Magneudóttir, president of the City Council, assisted with the proceedings.
Earlier that day, Gunnar Bjornsson the president of the Icelandic Chess Federation and Dagur B. Eggertsson Mayor signed a 3 year deal to have the continued support of the Reykjavik City for the Reykjavik Open.
The day before that it was announced GAMMA would be sponsoing the tournament for a further 3 years as well! GAMMA has been the main sponsor since 2014 and both parties are happy with the co-operation.

Indian GM Baskaran Adhiban had a magnificent tournament and won with 7½ out of 9. IN the spots behind him we had Maxime Lagarde from France and Mustafa Yilmaz from Turkey. They tied for 2nd-3rd with 7 points. 17 players finished on 6½ points.

Some stats
In total we had 248 players from 34 countries. 93 Icelanders and 155 foreign competitors. Americans had the biggest foreign contigent with 23 followed by England with 16, Germany 14, Netherlands 12 and India 11. Players came all the way from Australia, Brazil and Argentina and ranged from ages 9 up to age 85!
